MN-01-01 Aitkin Glen     Gone GONE In section 33 of Glen township on the E. side of SR47, just N. of the hamlet of Glen, there was once an octagon barn. Slide taken in the early 1970s shows faded siding and general state of disrepair. Barn collapsed in the early 1980s.
MN-02-01 Anoka Anoka 71'   05-2007 N45 13.21 W93 21.02 From jct. of US10 and CR9 (Round Lake Blvd.), on E. side of Anoka, go N. on CR9 1.1 miles; then turn E. (R.) on CR(1)16 (Bunker Lake Blvd.) and go about 0.7 miles Barn is on N. (L.) side of road. True round, it has red horizontal siding, cone roof with white cupola. Used for several years as antique shop, in late 1998 the barn was the only building left in development area; the round house on site is gone. www.roundbarnandovermn.com
MN-02-02   Anoka     02-2002 N45 20.10 W93 28.14 From jct. of US10 and CR9 on E. side of Anoka, go N. 8.4 miles on CR9; then turn W. (L.) and follow CR22 about 6 miles to jct. with CR5; go N. (R.) about 0.6 miles on CR5 (through Nowthen). Barn is on R., on gravel side road. True round, it has white horizontal siding, 2-pitch gambrel roof, and tile foundation. Entered on National Register of Historic Places in 1980. No longer in use, it is starting to deteriorate. (MM)
MN-02-03   Anoka     02-2002 N45 22.10 W93 20.79 From jct. of US10 and CR9 on E. side of Anoka, go N. 11.7 miles on CR9. On E. (R.) side of road is octagonal machine shed, now used as garage. Cedar Creek Baking Co., brick walls, shingled roof.
MN-02-04   Blaine 33'   05-2007 N45 07.71 W93 14.60 In Laddie Lake Park in Blaine. Central Av. (MN65) S. 0.1 miles from jct with US10 in Blaine, W. on 89th Av. 0.5 miles, S. on Polk St. 0.25 miles, E. on 87th Av. 0.1 miles to the bldg. (JS, 5-13-07,)
MN-03-01 Becker Audubon     1998   From Audubon go E. about 1.2 miles on US10; then turn N. (L.) on gravel private road, cross railroad track, and enter farmyard. Barn is hybrid: true round part with horizontal white siding and dome roof, attached to rectangular extension on W. Built in 1923, it has stone foundation, internal silo. In use and well maintained. (Possibly gone - MM drove the area 08-2004 & couldn't find it.)
MN-03-02   Lake Park   1916 08-2004 N46 56.59 W96 06.62 N. of Lake Park, Cuba Township. CR7 N. 5.3 miles from jct with US10 in Lake Park to the barn on the E. side of the road in a grove of trees. True round barn, red horizontal siding, 2-pitch roof, dormer on W. It has not been used since 1959 but has been kept in good condition.
MN-03-03   ???     Gone GONE Until sometime between 1987 and 1998 there was, in section 32 of Walworth township, a true-round barn almost identical to MN-03-02.
MN-04-01 Beltrami Bemidji 100' 1989 05-2007 N47 28.31 W94 53.11 Bemidji. 4th St. NW W. 0.25 miles (4 blocks) from jct with Old US2 in Bemidji, N. on Irvine Av. NW 100' to the bldg on the E. side of the road at 403.
MN-04-02   Bemidji 28'   05-2007 N47 29.28 W94 52.68 On the ball fields of Bemidji State University in Bemidji. Old US2 S. 0.2 miles from jct with Old US17 in Bemidji, E. on 19th St. NE 350' to the bldg on the N. side of the road.
MN-04-03   Blackduck 20'   05-2007 N47 43.74 W94 33.12 In Blackduck. Summit Av. E. 200' from jct with US71 in Blackduck, S. on Frontage Rd. 200', E. on Cedar Av. 300' to the bldg on the N. side of the road. Information, octagon bldg, unpainted horizontal siding, no cupola.
MN-05-01 Benton Foley     Gone GONE A polygonal barn with gray horizontal siding, gambrel roof, cupola, and hay dormer on the S. side, stood in section 20 of Maywood township. It was torn down in the summer of 1998.
MN-05-02   Foley   1921 03-2007 N45 34.77 W93 56.84 SSW of Foley, St. George Township. MN25 S. 5.2 miles from jct with MN23 in Foley, W. on MN95 1.5 miles, S. on CR23 0.7 miles to the barn on the W. side of the road. This barn and MN-05-03 are close together (originally on single farm), about 1.2 miles NW of the hamlet of Duelm. True round barn, poured concrete walls, internal silo of poured concrete, 2-pitch conical roof, very good condition. Built by Al Cota.
MN-05-03   Foley   1923 03-2007 N45 34.74 W93 57.02 SSW of Foley, St. George Township. MN25 S. 6.4 miles from jct with MN23 in Foley, W. on CR48 1.8 miles to the barn on the N. side of the road. This barn and MN-05-02 are close together (originally on single farm), about 1.2 miles NW of the hamlet of Duelm. Rising Moon Farm, true round barn, poured concrete walls, internal silo of poured concrete, 2-pitch conical roof, very good condition. Built by Al Cota.
MN-06-01 Big Stone ??? 84' 1913 Gone GONE Until it collapsed in 1993, what was probably the largest barn in Minnesota stood in section 31 of Moonshine township. Round, horizontal siding, and gambrel roof.
MN-06-02   Clinton     Gone GONE A mile S. of MN-06-01, in section 7 of Malta township, there was a round granary with red horizontal siding and gambrel roof. It was removed between 1994 and 1998.
MN-06-03   Ortonville     Gone GONE Round barn was located in section 16 of Ortonville township within the city limits of Ortonville. It had a cone roof and a large cupola.
MN-07-01 Blue Earth Garden City     Gone GONE Located in section 26 of Garden City township was a round barn with white horizontal siding and a dome roof supported entirely by an inside silo. Collapsed in the fall of 1990.
MN-07-02   Mapleton     Gone GONE Located in section 15 of Mapleton township was a round barn with tile walls and a metal cone roof.
MN-07-03   Mapleton   1911 Gone GONE Located in section 32 of Mapleton township was a round barn with horizontal siding, a gambrel roof, tile foundation, and a cupola topped with a ventilator.
MN-07-04   Garden City   1911 Gone GONE Located in section 17 of Rapidan township was a round barn with red vertical siding, green gambrel roof, matching cupola, and concrete basement. Gone late spring 1992.
MN-07-05   Pemberton 30'   06-2002 N43 59.70 W93 46.96 S. of Pemberton, Blue Earth County, MN. CR53 S. 1.0 miles from jct with MN83 in Pemberton to the building on the E. side of the road. 14-sided, white plywood siding, cone roof, no cupola, good condition. Used for storage of soybeans.
MN-07-06   Mankato     Gone GONE A circular building, used for chickens, was located on the S. edge of Mankato. Gone late 1950s.
MN-07-07   Lake Crystal 200'   06-2002 N44 06.16 W94 12.72 In Lake Crystal. CR9 E. 0.35 miles from jct with Main St. (CR76) in Lake Crystal, N. on Oakland 0.1 miles to the school on the W. side of the road. 20-sided school, tan brick w/concrete posts between sides, flat roof, excellent condition.
MN-07-08   Lake Crystal   1859 ?   E. of Lake Crystal off US169. James P. Gail, octagon house.
MN-07-09   Lake Crystal     06-2002   SE of Lake Crystal. CR9 E. 1.6 miles from jct with Main St. (CR76) in Lake Crystal, E. on a short dead end road 0.1 miles to the house ahead. Geodesic dome.
MN-08-01 Brown Hanska   1912 06-2002 N44 07.82 W94 26.42 SE of Hanska. State Highway 257 E. 3.0 miles from jct with Broadway in Hanska, S. on 135th Av. 0.5 miles to the barn on the W. side of the road at 11511 135th Av. 16-sided barn with rectangular extension to the N., both parts built in 1912 by Theodore Thormondson. Wood shell covered with tin, 2-pitch shingle roof, three louvered cupolas (two on rectangular part). No longer in use, barn shows signs of neglect, fair condition.
MN-10-01 Carver Cologne 60' 1927 06-2002 N44 44.38 W93 47.59 S. of Cologne. CR53 S. 2.0 miles from jct with US212 in Cologne, W. on Carver Rd. 0.3 miles to the barn on the N. side of the road. Lloyd Lemke "Lonely Oak Farm", a hybrid: round part has tile walls and dome roof with no cupola; rectangular extension of the same materials were built in 1927 by the father of the present owner. Still in use, it is well maintained. Silo extends through the dome roof; rectangular part has an aerator, excellent condition.
MN-10-02   Hamburg   1906 06-2002 N44 44.14 W93 58.70 WNW of Hamburg. CR50 W. 0.5 miles from jct with Jacob in Hamburg, N. on MN5 0.25 miles to the barn on the E. side of the road. Buckentin, octagon, 2-pitch roof, faded red horizontal siding on 2nd story, faded red vertical siding on lower story, stone foundation, metal ventilator at peak, fair condition. Shed attached on SE side. Not in use. There is an octagonal brooder house (MN-10-08) SW of this barn.
MN-10-06   Cologne 60' x 50' 1919 06-2002 N44 47.04 W93 50.08 WNW of Cologne. MN284 N. 1.1 miles from jct with US212 in Cologne, W. on 122nd St. 2.4 miles to the barn on the N. side of the road at Sunny Hill Farm. True round, white horizontal siding, 2-pitch roof with several small dormers at the hip, windowed cupola, concrete foundation, and short silo on NW side. There are many closely spaced small windows on ground floor. Built by Ben and Clara Lemke (owners) and contains stanchions, horse stalls, and a bull pen. It is now used for small items storage and is in excellent condition.
MN-10-07   Watertown   1906 04-2001 N44 56.04 W93 48.15 SE of Watertown. CR10 SE 2.5 miles from jct with MN25 in Watertown, E. on Swede Lake Rd. 1.3 miles to the barn on the S. side of the road. Gerald Carlson, octagon, red horizontal siding w/white trim, small louvered cupola, good condition.
MN-10-08   Hamburg     06-2002 N44 44.12 W93 58.71 WNW of Hamburg. CR50 (Broadway) W. 0.5 miles from jct with Jacob in Hamburg, N. on MN5 0.25 miles to the building on the E. side of the road next to round barn MN-10-02. Buckentin, octagon brooder house, faded red horizontal siding, ventilator, fair condition.
MN-12-01 Chippewa Watson     Gone GONE Located in section 20 of Tunsberg township was a round barn with faded horizontal siding and a cone roof. Torn down in the early 1990s.
MN-12-02   Montevideo     Gone GONE From jct. of SR29 and SR7, in Montevideo, go 2.8 miles E. on SR7; then go N. (L.) on township road (gravel) and go 2.8 miles Barn is on W. (L.) side of road. True round, with faded red horizontal siding and cone roof (cupola gone). Deteriorating, with holes in roof. [Gone - 6-21-02 - DJT]
MN-12-03   Maynard     06-2002 N44 52.65 W95 32.91 SW of Maynard. MN23 SW (curves S.) 2.4 miles from jct with CR17 (Dewey) in Maynard, W. on 100 St. SE (becomes CR15) 3.2 miles to the shed on the N. side of the road. Round machine shed, low one-story, white horizontal siding, cone roof, no cupola, doors opposite each other on E. and W., appears to be in use, good condition.
MN-12-04   Granite Falls   1884 06-2002 N44 49.66 W95 32.09 N. of Granite Falls. CR5 N. 1.8 miles from jct with US212 in Granite Falls to the house on the W. side of the road at 13035 30 Av. SE. MN-13-01 Chisago North Branch   1910 Gone GONE From jct. of SR95 and CR14, in North Branch, go .3 miles S. on CR14; continue S. on gravel township road .3 miles Barn is on W. (R.) side of road, partly obscured by large silos. Octagon with large gables on E. and W. sides; walls of cement blocks made on premises, shingled gambrel roof, it is no longer in use. MN-13-02   Chisago City 56' 1915 10-2005 N45 17.97 W92 52.19 In Chisago Lakes Township Park S. of Chisago City, Chisago Lake Township. CR24 (Old Towne Rd. - changes to Lofton Av.) S. 5.5 miles from jct with US8 in Chisago City to the barn on the E. side of the road (almost on shore of Moody Lake). Moody, true round barn, blue vertical siding, 2-pitch roof, louvered cupola. Built by father of Warren Moody. In use, well maintained.
MN-13-03   Shafer     Gone GONE There were reports of a 16-sided barn somewhere near Shafer.
MN-17-01 Cottonwood Sanborn   1911 06-2002 N44 08.88 W95 08.43 S. of Sanborn. US71 S. 2.9 miles from jct with CR15 in Sanborn, W. on CR11 1.0 miles, S. on gravel road 1.25 miles to the barn on the E. side of the road hidden by a grove of trees. Gated farm lane leads to it. Audrey Davis, 10-sided, ground-floor walls of fieldstones, upper-story walls unpatined horizontal siding, sectional cone roof, no cupola, hay dormer on the S. side, fair condition.
MN-17-02   Westbrook   1899 06-2002 N44 08.27 W95 21.63 NE of Westbrook. CR7 N. 6.0 miles from jct with MN30 in Westbrook, E. on CR10 3.0 miles, N. on CR6 1.0 miles, E. on gravel road 1.1 miles to the barn on the N. side of the road. 12-sided, faded red horizontal siding, stone foundation, no cupola, poor condition.
MN-17-03   Amboy     06-2002 N43 54.22 W94 10.44 NW of Amboy. US169 N. 1.2 miles from jct with MN30 on the W. side of Amboy to the shed on the W. side of the road. Small octagon shed, unpainted horizontal siding, segmented cone roof, poor condition.
MN-18-01 Crow Wing Baxter 35'   05-2007 N46 26.19 W94 18.44 NW of Brainerd, West Crow Wing Township. MN371 N. 7.0 miles from jct with MN210 just W. of Brainerd to the house on the W. side of the road at 19743.
MN-19-01 Dakota Farmington     Gone GONE Located in section 18 of Eureka township was a round barn with first floor tile and second floor walls of vertical siding once painted white, and gambrel roof. The cupola was lost in the late 1970s or the early 1980s and the barn was demolished between 1986 and 1989.
MN-19-02   Hastings   1858 06-2002 N44 44.66 W92 51.32 In Hastings. 2nd St. (CR42) W. 0.15 miles (2 blocks) from jct with US61 in Hastings to the house on the S. side of the road at 301 W 2nd St. Claflin-Norrish, octagon house, tan stucco w/brown trim, 2 story, flat roof, large windowed cupola, excellent condition.
MN-20-01 Dodge Hayfield     05-2002 N43 51.74 W92 43.25 ESE of Hayfield. MN30 E. 6.0 miles from jct with MN56 in Hayfield, S. on CR13 2.0 miles, E. on CR M 0.9 miles to the barn on the S. side of the road at 25881 CR M. A hybrid: originally an octagon barn, with short rectangular addition made later. Both parts have stone walls on first floor, unpainted vertical siding above. Cupola has been removed. External silo. No windows in frame part of original barn, fair condition.
MN-20-02   Kasson     Gone GONE From jct. of US14 and CR9, 2.5 miles W. of Kasson, go 3 miles S. on CR9, then .3 miles W. (R.) on gravel township road. Barn is on N. (R.) side of road. Basically a rectangular barn, it has polygonal "wings" on both sides, giving it somewhat the appearance of a round barn. In use, well maintained. [Gone & new shed in its place - 5-31-02 - DJT]
MN-21-01 Douglas Brandon     05-2003 N45 58.44 W95 36.02 N. of Brandon, Brandon Township. CR16 N. 0.4 miles from jct with 3rd St. at the W. edge of Brandon to the barn on the E. side of the road up a 0.15 mile driveway. 16-sided barn, white horizontal siding, 2-pitch segmented roof, octagon louvered cupola is listing, fair condition. Was used for ostrich farming.
MN-21-02   Garfield     Gone GONE Located in section 32 of Ida township was a 16-sided barn with unpainted horizontal siding and gambrel roof. Collapsed in late 1980s.
MN-21-03   Garfield   1914 04-2003 N45 56.53 W95 27.84 E. of Garfield, Ida Township. CR22 E. 1.4 miles from jct with CR12 in Garfield to the barn on the N. side of the road. 14-sided barn, red horizontal siding, 2-pitch roof (new 1998), no cupola, hay dormer on NW, relatively good condition, though paint is fading. Used for horses.
MN-21-04   Garfield     04-2003 N46 00.58 W95 27.75 NNE of Garfield, Ida Township. CR22 E. 1.6 miles from jct with CR12 in Garfield, N. on CR6 NW 4.7 miles to the barn on the W. side of the road. Oval barn, several additions, gray corrugated metal siding, 2-pitch (appears to be new) roof, very good condition, partly concealed by silos and additions.
MN-22-01 Faribault Blue Earth     Gone GONE An octagon livestock pavilion was located in the Faribault County fairgrounds at Blue Earth. Torn down about 1985.
MN-23-01 Fillmore Lanesboro 70'   05-2002 N43 50.18 W91 57.61 N. of Lanesboro. MN250 N. 9.4 miles from jct with MN16 in Lanesboro, continue N. CR32 1.1 miles to the barn on the W. side of the road up a driveway 0.1 miles. True round, built on the side of a hill, tile foundation (ground floor), white metal vertical siding on upper floor, cone roof, no cupola, roof has four small vents just above the eaves, excellent condition.
MN-23-02   Spring Valley     05-2002 N43 45.64 W92 17.35 NE of Spring Valley. CR1 N. 6.3 miles from jct with US63 in Spring Valley, E. on CR4 5.0 miles, S. on T343 1.0 miles to the barn on the W. side of the road. True round, white metal vertical siding, stone foundation, 2-pitch roof, metal aerator, excellent condition.
MN-23-03   Spring Valley   1912 05-2002 N43 43.81 W92 22.19 NE of Spring Valley. CR1 N. 1.9 miles from jct with US63 n Spring Valley, E. (curves N.) on CR38 1.6 miles to the barn on the W. side of the road. True round, grey tin siding, concrete foundation, 2-pitch roof with four small dormers, ventilator, poor condition. Some of the tin siding has come off or is loose and the roofing is all but gone.
MN-23-04   Chatfield     05-2002 N43 48.08 W92 09.31 SSE of Chatfield, Chatfield Township. US52 SE 1.4 miles from jct with MN30 in Chatfield, S. on TR259 2.8 miles to the barn on the E. side of the road. Barn and other outbuildings are on E. side of road, house on W. Dave Ahern, true round, unpainted horizontal siding, stone foundation, cupola, cone roof, good condition, needs paint.
MN-24-01 Freeborn Hartland     Gone GONE A small octagon structure with metal siding and a sectional cone roof stood in section 15 of Hartland township. It was removed during the 1990s.
MN-24-02   Hartland   1891 Gone GONE Located in section 25 of Hartland township was an octagon barn. An early photograph shows it to have had vertical siding on the ground floor, horizontal siding above, sectional cone roof, and an 8 sided cupola with windows and louvers on alternate sides. It disappeared many years ago.
MN-24-03   Emmons     Gone GONE A partly round sales barn at Emmons was torn down about 1978.
MN-24-04   Albert Lea 195' 1965 05-2007 N43 39.83 W93 22.30 In Albert Lea. Bridge Av. (CR22) S. 1.7 miles from jct with I90 exit 157 on the far N. side of Albert Lea, W. on Richway Dr. (CR20) 0.6 miles to the school on the S. side of the road. Brookside Education Center, 48-sided school house, 2 story, flat roof.
MN-25-01 Goodhue Red Wing 60' x 60' 1914 07-2001 N44 32.82 W92 27.63 ESE of Red Wing. US61/63 ESE 3.9 miles from jct with US63 in Red Wing, S. on Wildwood Ln. 0.1 miles to the barn straight ahead. Round, white horizontal siding, rusty aerator, 2-pitch roof appears to be new, stone foundation, very good condition, no longer used. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. Set against a backdrop of wooded hills, it is an unusually attractive barn.
MN-25-02   Miesville   1913 Gone GONE Located in section 19 of Welch township was a round barn with faded horizontal siding, cone roof, and stone foundation. It was torn down between 1986 and 1989.
MN-25-03   Red Wing   1857 05-2002 N44 33.73 W92 32.46 In Red Wing. US61 W. 0.6 miles from jct with US63 in Red Wing, S. on Hill 1 block to the house on the E. side of the road at 927 W 3rd St. Lawther B&B, 2 story, brick, flat roof, large windowed fancy cupola, porch surrounds first story, excellent condition.
MN-26-01 Grant Elbow Lake     Gone GONE Located in section 32 of Pomme de Terre township was a round barn. Torn down about 1982.
MN-27-01 Hennepin Rogers     02-2002 N45 11.04 W93 37.13 From exit 207, I94, go S. 0.4 miles on SR101; continue S. 1.2 miles (through Rogers) on CR150; turn W. (R.) on CR116 and go about 2 miles NW; then turn S. (L.) on Hassan Parkway and go SW 1.0 miles Barn is at end of farm lane on N. (R.) side. It is true round, with red horizontal siding, 2-pitch gambrel roof, and cupola with metal ventilator on top. Ground floor has numerous small, closely spaced windows. Although located on an unoccupied farm place, barn has undergone recent repairs to roof and is in very good condition. (MM)
MN-27-02   St. Bonifacius   1917 1998   From SR7 at St. Bonifacius, go N. 3.3 miles on CR92; turn E. (R.) on CR15 and go 1.0 miles; turn N. (L.) on Deer Creek Road (gravel) and go 0.2 miles Barn is on W. (L.) side of road. Built in 1917, it was converted into a house in 1978. It is octagonal, with red vertical siding, gambrel roof, and cupola. Freshly painted in the 1980s, with new roof, it is in excellent condition, sporting such conveniences as deck and solar panels. MN-27-03   St. Bonifacius     02-2002 N44 57.63 W93 44.49 N. of St. Bonifacius. CR92 N. 4.1 miles from jct with MN7 in St. Bonifacius to the shed on the E. side of the road. Garage, octagon, red horizontal siding, sectional cone roof, cupola, excellent condition. (MM)
MN-28-01 Houston New Albin, IA 48' 1913 09-2001 N43 30.28 W91 17.27 S. of Jefferson, Jefferson Township. MN26 S. 0.6 miles from jefferson to a driveway on the W. side of the road at 23694 SR26. Barn is 500' WSW of the W. end of the private driveway. The barn can be seen from Ross St. in New Albin, IA and from IA26. Whalen, 13-sided, faded red vertical siding, sectional metal cone roof, tile 16' x 40' central silo with small dormer on the E., poor condition. Still used as shelter for young stock. Barn has attractive valley setting but is deteriorating. Said to have been model for similar barn just SW of New Albin.
MN-28-02   Caledonia     05-2002 N43 39.54 W91 23.34 ENE of Caledonia. MN44 N. 2.3 miles from jct with MN76 in Caledonia, E. on CR20 2.0 miles, S. on T156 1.0 miles, E. on CR3 3.2 miles to the barn on the S. side of the road at 6873 CR3. Jennings, round, white horizontal siding partly covered with metal sheets, cone roof with metal ventilator, good condition. Originally built for cattle, it is now used for hogs.
MN-28-03   Spring Grove     Gone GONE Located in section 11 of Wilmington township was a round barn that was built of tile and had a gambrel roof. A windstorm in the summer of 1998 tore off the roof.
MN-28-04   Houston     05-2002 N43 45.79 W91 36.56 W. of Houson. MN16 W. 0.8 miles from jct with MN76 in Houston, S. on T251 0.2 miles, W. on CR13 1.05 miles to 17444 CR13, NW on private driveway 0.25 miles to the barn. Dahle, octagon, metal over wood siding above stone foundation, 3-pitch metal sectional roof, rectangular addition on E. side, small dormer on W side. Not in use but in fair condition.
MN-28-05   Houston     06-2003 N43 47.75 W91 25.89 NE of Houston, Houston Township. MN16 N. 1.4 miles from jct with MN44 in Hokah, W. on CR21 5.6 miles to the house at 8824 CR21, N. up a driveway 0.2 miles. Alan Stankevich, 16 sided house, 2 story, sides made of cordwood set in mortar, red metal segmented conical roof, small octagon louvered cupola, excellent condition. Cannot be seen from the road in the summer.

There is an adjacent silo, but neither silo nor barn appears to be in use. This is one of the state's older round barns. There is an octagonal building house (MN-40-03) SW of this barn.

MN22 S. 2.8 miles from jct with CR21 just W. of Kasota, W. on CR101 0.9 miles, continue W. on TR360 1.2 miles to the barn on the S. side of the road at 36693. Riverbend Stables, 16-sided, one-story, red vertical siding, no cupola, very good condition. Light is provided by windows on all sides of a clerestory, almost as great in diameter as the barn itself. Used for horses. There is a rectangular addition on the SW side.

Charles Erickson, true round barn, red horizontal siding, concrete-block foundation, 2-pitch roof with metal ventilator. Still used and in very good condition.
MN-56-02   Underwood     1998   From jct. of SR210 and CR35 in Underwood, take CR35 S. about 6 miles; turn W. (R.) on gravel township road and go 0.8 miles, to entrance (on N. side of road) to farm lane. Barn, not visible from township road, is at end of this lane. It is true round, with bright red horizontal siding, high gambrel roof with ten-sided cupola, and concrete foundation scored to resemble brick. It is said to be used to house circus animals in winter.
MN-56-03   Underwood   c.1920 1998 N46 19.54 W95 52.72 N. of Underwood, Sverdrup Township. CR35 N. 3.6 miles from jct with MN210 in Underwood, W. on 0.25 miles to the barn on the S. side of the road. True round barn, red horizontal siding, concrete foundation, 2-pitch roof, cupola. Much like MN-56-02, but roof is lower. No longer used, it remains in good condition.
MN-56-04   Dent     1998   From jct. of SR108 and CR35 in Dent, go 4.8 miles S. and SW on CR35 to driveway (gated) on S. (L.) side of road. About 0.3 miles on this driveway is a large hybrid barn, of gray tile. On E. end of arch-roofed rectangular barn is dome-roofed, true round section, culminating in large hay bay. In good condition, barn is used only in summer.
MN-56-05   Perham     1998   From jct. of US10 and SR78 at Perham, go S. 0.2 miles on SR78, 2.0 miles W. (R.) on gravel township road, then 1.0 miles N. (R.) on gravel township road, then 0.7 miles E. (R.) to farm lane on S. (R.) Barn is 0.3 miles S. on this lane. Built of concrete blocks, it closely resembles MN-56-04 but is in poorer condition, wooden cupola somewhat askew. Round part contains stanchions arranged in circle. Barn is used for storage. Owner, R. D. Offutt.

MN-60-01 Polk Fertile   1894 1998   From jct. of SR32 and CR211, 2.6 miles N. of Fertile, turn E. on CR211 (gravel) and go 1.0 miles; then turn S. (R.) on gravel township road and go 0.8 miles Barn is on W. (R.) side of road. True round, it has tile foundation, red horizontal siding, gambrel roof with large dormer. Built in 1894, it is still in use and in good condition.
MN-60-02   Trail     1998   From jct. of SR92 and gravel township road, at E. edge of Trail, go S. 1.2 miles, then turn E. (L.) on another gravel road and go 0.3 miles, to farm lane on S. (R.) side of road. Follow this lane 0.25 miles to true round barn with gambrel roof, cupola, vertical metal siding, and hay bay above S. entrance. Used for storage, barn is in fair condition.
MN-61-01 Pope Glenwood     Gone GONE Located in section 13 of Barsness township was a round barn with red vertical siding. Just the walls remained in 1986.
MN-61-02   Glenwood     05-2003 N45 31.15 W95 25.48 SSW of Glenwood. MN104 S. 8.0 miles from jct with MN28 in Glenwood, W. on TR T47 1.7 miles, S. on 245th Av. 1.0 miles to the barn up a private drive 0.1 miles. True round, with metal siding, green gambrel roof with metal ventilator, hay bay on N. In good condition and still used in dairy operation, it is partly concealed by silos and additions.
MN-61-03   Swift Falls     Gone GONE Located in section 36 of Rolling Forks township was a round barn. A 1977 photograph shows that it had horizontal siding partly covered with metal and a gambrel roof and was in poor condition. It has since collapsed.
MN-61-04   Starbuck   1916 1998   From jct. of SR114 and SR29, at Starbuck, go 1.0 miles N. on SR114; turn E. (R.) on gravel township road and go 0.6 miles Barn is visible to (L.) across small lake; it is reached by a farm lane. True round, with red vertical siding, gambrel roof, small white cupola, and concrete foundation. Built about 1916, it was used until recently for dairy cattle. It is still in reasonably good condition.

MN-66-01 Rice Faribault     Gone GONE In the May 1993 issue #2, p.19 of "Currents" is a photograph of a polygonal building identified as the "Rice County Live Stock Sales Pavilion, Faribault, MN." Inquiries in Faribault have failed to turn up any evidence of this structure. It had at least 8 sides, many windows, and a double cupola or clerestory.
MN-67-01 Rock Luverne     06-2002 N43 38.93 W96 12.53 In the county fairgrounds in Luverne. Freeman St. S. 0.35 miles from jct with E Main (CR4) in Luverne, E. on Cedar 0.05 miles into the fairgrounds and the barn on the S. side of the road. MN-71-01 Sherburne Big Lake     Gone GONE From jct. of US10 and CR5, in Big Lake, go about 15.5 miles N. (through Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge) on CR5. Barn is on E. (R.) side of road, 0.4 miles N. of CR3, which forms N. boundary of wildlife refuge. Octagon, with sectional cone roof, faded red vertical siding; there is silo on S. side. MN-71-02   Elk River     1998 GONE On N. side of US10, about 5 miles W. of Elk River. Octagon, with faded red horizontal siding and white trim, green gambrel roof, large matching cupola, large gable on S. side, concrete foundation. Attractive barn at one time, it has suffered from neglect; paint is fading, and roof is deteriorating. Likely candidate for destruction in the near future.
MN-72-01 Sibley Green Isle     Gone GONE From jct. of SR5/25 and 158th St., about 2.7 miles N. of Green Isle, go W. 2.6 miles on gravel township road; turn S. (L.) on another gravel road and go 0.2 miles Barn is visible off to W. (R.), well back from road on farm lane. True round, it has white metal siding, cone roof (no cupola), and ramp to second story on S. side. May once have had internal silo. Still used, it is in good condition. Built by the present owner's grandfather, Kristofer Panning, and now used mainly for storage.

Wayne Mackenthun, octagon barn, red vertical siding, 2-pitch roof, small louvered cupola, roof getting bad rectangular attachments all around. Built for Fred Hoops. Additions were made to the barn in the 1960s to modernize the milking system and to make room for additional dairy cattle. The Mackenthuns are only the second family to own the farm.

Barn is true round, with red horizontal siding, green cone roof, stone foundation. Built in 1904 or 1905, it is no longer in use and is in only fair condition.

MN-82-01 Washington Afton   1910 Gone GONE Located in section 30 of Afton township (now city) was an octagon barn with red vertical siding, a sectional cone roof, and octagon cupola. Good condition in 1986 and disappeared soon afterward.

True round, red horizontal siding, 2-pitch roof, louvered cupola, and stone foundation with red doors. Although used only for storage, barn is in fair condition (roof getting bad) and the most attractive of Winona County's round barns, partly because of its location in the scenic Trout Creek valley. Built by John Murray, it remained in the Murray family until 1993; it had not been in full use since 1977.

(curves N.) 1.2 miles from jct with CR26 in Altura, continue N. on CR31 0.75 miles, W on CR114 0.35 miles to the barn on the N. side of the road at 32MV02 CR114; all but concealed by outbuildings. True round, red horizontal siding, 2-pitch roof, stone foundation, fair condition. Still used, but beginning to deteriorate, especially the roof. Best view is from NE, where ramp leads to second story.
MN-85-08   Altura   1910 Gone GONE Located in section 4 of Norton township was a round barn with a dome roof and central silo. The barn was damaged in 1949 and the dome was placed directly on the stone walls on the ground floor. The barn collapsed and was removed in the spring of 1990.

MN-85-10   Altura   1916 Gone GONE Located in section 22 of Norton township was a round barn with metal siding, a gambrel roof, a central silo, and a stone foundation. Removed in June of 1998, when a windstorm took the roof off.

Brogan, true round, grey metal siding, 2-pitch roof with bent ventilator, tile foundation, good condition. Replaces one built the previous year that burned. Still used.
MN-85-13   Elba   1913 Gone GONE Located in section 24 of Whitewater township was a round barn with horizontal siding, gambrel roof, central silo, and stone masonry foundation. Later metal siding was added and the silo was removed causing the roof to sag. Collapsed in early 1986.

US14 W. 2.0 miles from jct with CR25 on the E. edge of Lewiston, N. on TR11 2.0 miles, W. on TR22 0.6 miles to the barn on the N. side of the road. MN-85-15   Troy 54' 1906 05-2002 N43 51.33 W92 03.05 SE of Troy. CR43 S. 1.4 miles from jct with CR6 in Troy, E. (curves N.) on township road 1.05 miles to the barn on the W. side of the road at 32SR03 just beyond the bridge over Trout Run. Macstethem, true round, faded red horizontal siding, cone roof, tall cupola, stone foundation, fair condition. Windows have white trim, and there are double doors on the E. Surrounded by other buildings, barn is on high ground and readily visible from road.
MN-85-16   Witoka     Gone GONE Located in section 7 of Homer township was a polygonal (probably 12 sides) barn with a gambrel roof, central silo, and stone foundation. Disappeared after 1971.
MN-85-17   Wyattville   1913 Gone GONE Located in section 5 of Warren township was a round barn. A rather poor photograph shows it to have had a gambrel roof and a small cupola. Torn down in 1980 after wind damage.

MN-86-04   St. Michael 64' x 60' 1906 1998   St. Michael Township. From end of SR241, in St. Michael, go W. and SW about 2 miles on CR35; turn S. (L.) on CR120 (Jamison Av.) and go 0.8 miles. Barn is at end of private road that goes E. (L.) from CR120. True round barn, white horizontal siding, 2-pitch roof, cupola w/aerator, excellent condition. Still in use. Built by George Meyer.
MN-86-05   Rockford   1880s Gone GONE Located in section 16 of Rockford township was an octagon barn with red vertical siding, a sectional cone roof, cupola, and masonry foundation. The central portion was 3 stories high and there were 2 one story wings on the E. and W. sides. Burned in 1992.
MN-86-06   Cokato   1908 Gone GONE Located in section 19 of Stockholm township was a round barn with horizontal siding, a cone roof, no cupola, and stone foundation. A central silo was removed in 1934. It was in good condition when a tornado destroyed it in June 1992.
MN-86-07   Howard Lake     Gone GONE Located in section 27 of Victor township was a round barn with white horizontal siding on the second floor, green vertical siding on the first floor, cone roof, and cupola. Removed some time between 1986 and 1991.
MN-86-08   Montrose     Gone GONE Located in section 4 of Woodland township was an octagon barn with white horizontal siding with green trim, gently sloping sectional cone roof, large matching cupola (really a clerestory) with many windows, and a rectangular extension on the E. side. In good condition in 1986 and removed between then and 1998.
MN-86-09   Elk River   1915 02-2002 N45 16.55 W93 34.01 S. of Elk River. US101 S. 0.7 miles from jct with US10 in Elk River, W. on CR39 0.2 miles, S. on CR42 0.4 miles to the barn on the W. side of the road. True round, white metal vertical siding, cone roof, octagon louvered cupola, fieldstone foundation. Still used and in very good condition.
MN-86-10   Howard Lake     1998   From jct. of US12 and CR6, in Howard Lake, go N. 0.4 miles on CR6 to Wright County fairgrounds, on W. (L.) side of road. Exhibition barn is octagonal, with white horizontal siding, metal ventilator, and weathervane. Second story is recessed. Long rectangular extension on W. side. Kept in good repair.
